An OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination) exam, is a common assessment method employed in health sciences disciplines like medicine, physical therapy, nursing, pharmacy, and dentistry. Its purpose is to evaluate the performance and proficiency of clinical skills, encompassing communication, clinical examination, medical procedures, prescription practices, clinical decision-making, critical thinking, exercise prescription, joint mobilisation techniques, and the interpretation of clinical outcomes.
Once you successfully clear your Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), your IQNM dashboard will indicate your eligibility to take the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE), and you'll be prompted to pay the corresponding fee. Upon receiving your payment, the IQNM exams team will reach out to you regarding forthcoming examination dates.
The RN OSCE comprises ten clinical scenarios designed to assess individuals according to the NMBA Registered Nurse Standards for Practice. Serving as the baseline practice level for Registered Nurses (RNs) in Australia, it is a regulatory rather than educational assessment. This ensures uniformity among all candidates, with examiners refraining from coaching, prompting, or providing additional explanations of duties or observations to any candidate.
AHPRA (the regulatory body) administers the examination, and the fee amounts to AUD 4,000..
Similar to the Next Generation NCLEX (NGN) examination fee, the OSCE fee is non-refundable irrespective of circumstances.
Yes, there are two locations that you can choose from Adelaide (The State of South Australia) and Melbourne (The State of Victoria).
If you're located outside of Australia, you'll be required to travel to Australia to complete the OSCE examination. Additionally, it's the responsibility of the candidate to arrange their own travel, including accommodation. If you don't possess the appropriate visa for traveling to Australia, you'll need to ensure you have cleared your NCLEX exam and have all other required documents ready to apply for a multiple-entry tourist visa at the Australian Embassy in your country.
Each session is expected to last approximately 3 to 3.5 hours. Candidates will be assigned to either a morning (AM) or afternoon (PM) session.
Candidates who do not pass the OSCE can reapply to take the examination once they have received their results. They must ensure that the fee for their next OSCE has been paid through the IQNM dashboard beforehand. Upon notification of the payment by the IQNM exam team, a booking selection email will be sent, providing details of the next available examination schedule.
For further details, refer to the Registered Nurse Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) Candidate Handbook created by AHPRA & National Boards.
Throughout or following the OSCE, candidates will not receive coaching, prompts, additional explanations of tasks, or feedback from OSCE examiners. YES. It is feasible to reschedule the exam. The IQNM must submit a request for rescheduling at least three (3) days or 72 hours before the scheduled examination date. The IQNM must take into account Australia's territorial and national holidays when determining a reschedule. Offices are closed during these periods. Upon approval of the reschedule, a confirmation notice will be sent to the candidate.
