NCLEX exam processes
The NCLEX is a computer-based test that predominantly consists of multiple-choice questions with four options. However, examinees might also encounter short-answer and fill-in-the-blank questions. The exam is adaptive, concluding when the test-taker has either answered 75 questions correctly or 75 incorrectly, or when all questions have been addressed or the allotted time has elapsed. The scoring is based on a pass/fail system.
Prior to attempting the NCLEX, every candidate must obtain authorization to test (ATT). This involves a two-step procedure wherein candidates need to apply for licensure with the Nursing Regulatory Body (NRB) and also register and submit a test fee via Pearson VUE, which amounts to $200. Upon receiving authorization, candidates can proceed to schedule their NCLEX exam. The exam is available throughout the year and must be taken at a Pearson test center. Specific registration rules and requirements vary by state.
